[He makes a little noncommittal noise to that declaration.

The jury is still out on that one, apparently. Anon retracts his hand with a hum and rolls to stare at the ceiling again.]

I really don't. I was getting bored with the Foundation anyway, you know? They had a lot of interesting SCPs for me to mess around with, and they were something... really new. [there's a soft weight there, not quite tangible] But they really didn't want to let me do anything, probably because they were afraid of me -- and I mean, they're right, but it's such a pain!

[There's a minor pout in his voice to go with.]

Anyway, I learned a lot of things since I came here, and a bunch of things I wouldn't have learned at the Foundation. Also, I learned that I can become a Witch!

You could, technically, but it would be difficult to do. Why do you want to be a witch anyway? Just because you're bored?

Because I want to open a new path. I don't care if something is hard -- that just makes it more worth doing.

Also, I guess I was bored.

[It doesn't sound like a lie, but the flippant tone doesn't quite land, either.

He lifts a hand towards the ceiling, and stares at it. The sleeve on the shirt he's wearing slips down a little to reveal a hint of the stripes that start at his wrist and continue all the way down.]

So I've been looking for a way for a long time. A really, really long time now.

If you're really that interested in becoming one, then you would need a few things to do so. The first being 'an available title that isn't currently claimed by a witch', and the second being 'someone to speak for you'.

Haha, I'm really just planning for the far future. I'm sure it would take a while to become a Witch, and some more thought. But as for having someone to speak for me... at least I know two Witches now, right? And maybe you can introduce me to Lambdadelta or something once you're done.

[This is all really idle chatter, maybe.

He does seem to be sincere about sussing out the whole Witch thing, though. Impulsive and feckless though he may seem... he's rather cautious, in his own way.]

Though, did you know that Nirrti offered me a contract? She seemed pretty serious about it, too.

Something like that. I wasn't interested in just bouncing between Witches, so I told her no thanks.

But hey, Watanuki -- do you know why I haven't gone over to Nirrti's side?

Hahaha, don't flatter yourself! You're not boring, but it's more that you're kind of pathetic, with all your problems and your Pieces scattered all over the place. I'm surprised it took you until the second week to get yourself shot. That still doesn't make any sense, by the way.

But you have potential, and that's what's interesting about you.

Isn't it a villain's job to help the heroes grow?

[YEAH his eyebrow is definitely twitching at that. Stop dragging him Anon, that's rude.]

Maybe, but I would rather see you as a friend than as a villain.

Are those two things that can't go together?

[This is a genuine question??? But also, like.]

You and everyone, you always talk about being friends, sticking together, all of that stuff, but how much do you really know about people, anyway? Even your own Pieces, on or off the board.

From my point of view... friendship is just how people who don't know how to deal with alliances make themselves feel better.

See, this right here, this is why you're not ready to be a Witch. Friendship transcends alliances. You can have battles with your friends, and you can be genuinely angry with them at times. But the key thing is, friends come back to each other once cooler heads prevail.

And as for how much I know, well. You're probably better off not knowing that.

That's really weird. I kind of thought Witches were also beyond friendships and stuff like that. I've never found any use for any of that.

[He's from entirely the wrong canonpoint to understand this shounen rhetoric?? Honestly.

Granted, he seems to gloss over the finer details entirely, but that might just be him being himself.]

You've still got to be cryptic, huh... Did your knowledge help you, when it came to who Nirrti would take every week?

Once again, I have to say 'You are not a Witch' as an explanation for why you can't understand it.

And no, I have to figure out the mystery alongside the rest of you.

So you really don't know the most important things... or you don't know what to do about them.

I have to figure it all out alongside you. Nirrti knows the mysteries already. I don't. It's not about "knowing the important things", it's that she's the 'storyteller' and I'm the 'player'.

Ooh. Is that why she’s doing so much of the setup and the trials and everything? I was really wondering about that.

[He laughs when he gets kicked.]

What does it mean, anyway? Storyteller and player? Doesn’t that mean she’s got more power?

Hmm. So, do you know what kind of story she's telling yet?

Despair, if I had to guess. She doesn't like that I see Humans as worth caring about.

Ah. Like the story in the book, right? I think we all know that's her story by now.

"Humans will drive away and destroy anyone and anything different from themselves." That's the base nature of humans, and all living things. That they look out for their own interests. And they trample the interests of others to get there.

I kind of get it, you know? Even if her story is really dramatic.

After all, I figured humans were pretty useless, too. So I was going to help wipe them all out.

[This is the backstory exposition you never wanted. RIP.]

[This is said with all the conviction of Someone who is scolding a small child for saying something silly. ]

If you kill them, you will accumulate a grudge. You don't need that.

[He starts laughing.]

I thought I'd accumulate karma or something! You Witches have way too many different terms for things.

Besides, it wasn't just my desire to wipe them out. It was the desire of the Celestial children who hated them, because they were forced to grow up with humans who hated their guts and shunned them. All I was doing was helping out.

[He's quiet for a moment.]

That happened to almost all the Celestials in the human world that I know of.

Of course, I don't really care about them that much. Celestials and Infernals are natural enemies.

You would get the karma too, but a grudge is different. You don't want a grudge.

And at least take responsibility for the damage you do. Even if you were 'helping out', you still did those actions.

Now I just really want to know what a grudge is. Is it like a curse?

[He can't help it, he's an eternally curious creature, okay.

That being said, it's a little bit of an aside as he hums to himself a little, seemingly thinking over Watanuki's words.]

Of course I take responsibility. I just mean that... humans are like that. Celestials, too. [...] So are Infernals. I bet Witches are like that too, and everyone here has some part of that in them. So what I really wanted to do...

I wanted to destroy every world I knew of. That was my dream.

To make a different path for myself.
