Anon doesn't really hesitate, even though the window magically opening is new -- he just laughs, briefly, and slips his way inside.]

How annoying was it to pretend to be a Piece all that time? It really was pointless holding yourself back, wasn't it?

It wasn't as annoying as you might expect. I'm new to being a witch, so I remember how to be a human.

It's still been a good amount of years, though, hasn't it? I know you like saying you're new, but even to most of us non-humans that's a good amount of time to get into it.

Come to think of it, though, I've never thought about that before. Humans don't usually become much of anything back where I come from.

[He's going to settle in the nearest seat to the bed. Hey, wasn't this just a crime scene last week? He's also sitting exactly where Holmes was, and Watanuki is totally in bed right by where he bled out. This would be awkward if Anon wasn't Anon.]

Officially it's been about three months. I was stuck in my shop for a century, but I wasn't a witch yet.

[Don't be awkward, Anon. Watanuki will sit up, though.]

Humans don't become much of anything, no. Their lives are too short.

That's confusing, weren't you Yuuko's apprentice or something back then, anyway? So that makes you some kind of baby Witch, or Witch-in-training, or something like that.

[He gives a wave as if to say, I'm totally right on this one, right?]

I still don't get why you picked so many humans for the Game, anyway. Is it because they're good at doing things really, really fast?

[After all, to beings with longer lifespans the Game here is like blinking; would be, if not for its importance.]

Technically yes, but a 'witch' like what I was and a 'Witch' like what I am now are different things.

And I picked who I did for their personalities and skill sets, not for if they were human or not.

But this Yuuko you keep talking about was a Witch, though, right?

[Hmm. He sort of turns that over and then shrugs.]

I guess that kind of makes sense, even if Nirrti is totally obsessed with yelling about humans all the time. It's actually kind of weird when she gets going and there are a bunch of us standing around wondering if she's talking to us!

So how was it, getting all stabbed today?

Right, but you got stabbed in two different ways! I was wondering if the whole Servant thing helped or made it worse. None of us have really been defeated in the court except for Nirrti, anyway, right?

You are correct, but that pain was diluted for me. I didn't feel everything Ruler-san did.

Ah, he was a real pro at being a pincushion! Nirrti really polished up those spears nicely. Or I guess we polished 'em up for her.

Oh, yeah, what happens if a Piece does get defeated in trial? Furniture? Something else?

Furniture, definitely. And that can't happen too quickly.

I feel like your Pieces probably needed more warnings about how Nirrti plays, after the last week. Some of these guys just learn really slowly.

[I'm not saying he's talking about Wheatley, but Wheatley's the fish in the barrel here.]

Nirrti was really holding back, huh, not even killing a few people in trial up to now.

I wonder how many we're going to sacrifice in the future. Or is Holmes planning on that play every week?

It's not a bad strategy, though if Nirrti sees through it then she'll likely have him killed.

So the other option is to have a complete blue theory, but break it up into different people. If she's going to play the waiting game, then it might be better to divide and conquer somehow! It would be pretty inconvenient if we just ran out of people.

Divide and conquer isn't a bad thought. If several people go at her at once, it might be harder for her to counter.

Or at least harder for her to totally waste people!

[He gives a little laugh like the shop talk is fun to him, and it totally is. A little hum, and then--]

So, which Pieces would you be okay with sacrificing first off?

I was wondering if you would.

But I bet you've thought about it, haven't you? You'd have to, if you've thought about the rate at which you're losing Pieces. Besides, that's not the only problem.

I've been wondering this, but Nirrti really isn't using her Pieces, is she? They can't just be here for cleaning up the house and stuff.

We haven't reached a tipping point yet. That's why.

She's still testing us, it feels like. Seeing where she can get in and what the weakest points are.

She's definitely going to find a few more, the longer things go on.

[He's absolutely matter-of-fact about this. Them's just the breaks, pun semi-intended. There's a moment after that where he just watches Watanuki, lip curled over a flash of teeth, not-quite-a-smile.]

It's still worth it, right?

Yes, it's still worth it. Even if it gets more difficult from here on out, it's worth it.

I get the feeling there are traps in this Game that both you and Nirrti haven't accounted for. You know what I mean?

What are you going to do about that vision, anyway?
